Bridal Chamber. The Encounter

Oil and acrylic on canvas. 36 x 24 inches/ 91.4 x 61 cm, 2024-2026. This artwork translates the spatial intimacy of Andrea Mantegna’s Renaissance frescoes at the Palazzo Ducale into a highly abstract vocabulary. Working in acrylic and oil on linen, I dissolve figuration into sweeping blue arcs, warm ochres, and calligraphic marks. The piece engages directly with cultural memory, rooted in my ancestral lineage and decades spent living in Italy. By reducing grand historical narratives to core elements of color and gesture, the layered surface retains the relational depth of its source material. It generates a palpable connection to place through a synthesis of conscious experience and ancient, subconscious memories, operating entirely outside recognizable form.
